Job description
This is an exciting opportunity to work as one of DIO’s leading Principal Project Manager’s. In this role you will be responsible for leading and taking charge of complex capital infrastructure and construction solutions at the heart of defence capability. The role requires the utmost focus on time, cost and quality, whilst proactively managing our supply chain End Users to deliver the best results for defence. This role will involve Line Management of a small team of people.
The position will operate within the Major Programmes and Projects (MPP) and will deliver infrastructure and construction projects for UKStratCom.
there will be an expectation to regularly visit projects locations, which may be different from the Candidates preferred Duty Station.
Person specification
As well as influencing and agreeing the work schedule for your projects, you’ll make sure the right contracts and resources are in place, both internal and external.
- You’ll provide visible leadership and effective stakeholder management, driving engagement with our most important and influential partners and negotiating key outcomes in support of your Projects’ delivery
- Orchestrate delivery in collaboration with End Users and Industry Partners, utilising effective contract management to assure that the outputs delivered meet the defined requirement within the time agreed and in pursuit of value-for-money
- You’ll manage and mitigate risks, effectively handling project change and finding solutions to any issues that might arise.
- Monitor and forecast delegated budgets and resources ensuring appropriate financial controls for functions aligned with MOD and DIO policy.
- You’ll use robust contract management tools and techniques to establish enduring relationships and drive positive performance in the supply chain, and identify and implement corrective actions when appropriate.
- Effectively report & provide info across the project & programme structure and management chain as appropriate
Desirable Skills and Experiences
- Membership of a professional body or institution (e.g. RIBA, RICS, ICE, CIBSE, IMechE, CIOB or equivalent)
- Recognised construction qualification (NVQ Level 5, HNC/HND or higher in a Construction, Infrastructure or Engineering related discipline)
- Candidate will preferably have experience of leading projects within a secure environment

1. Experience of the design and delivery of major engineering or infrastructure programmes and projects (>£10m) in a senior project management role.

3. Experience of the ‘RIBA Plan of Work 2020’ model for the delivery of construction and infrastructure projects.
4. Candidate will have working experience of managing the delivery of construction and infrastructure projects under the NEC and/or JCT suite of contracts

Candidate should expect to deliver a 5 minute presentation at Interview, this will be followed by 5 minutes Q&A.
The presentation scenario will be provided a minimum of 5 working days before interview.
We want to offer opportunities to all who are successful at interview for our roles, but this isn’t always possible, so we do hold candidates on an active reserve list for 12 months. It is also possible that we may offer similar lower graded role/s to reserve candidates or, if no reserves are appointed, candidates that meet the lower grade criteria in merit order.
