Job summary
We are recruiting for two Strategy Advisor roles (1 x Research Sustainability Team & 1 x Investment Strategy Team).
The Research Sustainability team is responsible for analysing the resilience of the UKs research and innovation system. The team provides advice to colleagues across UKRI on options for improving the financial sustainability of the UK research base and considers the relative opportunities and risks of making policy changes or influencing incentives across the system.
Job description
Whilst specific team responsibilities may differ, the purpose of the Strategy Advisor role is to:
- Using evidence, analysis, and insights to develop options and advice on a portfolio of issues, often to rapid timescales, that will inform key decision making and support new strategy development
- Assisting to provide high quality advice to the UKRI CEO, UKRI Board, senior officials and Ministers in the Department for Science, Innovation and Technology (DSIT)
- Where required, develop subject matter expertise to support UKRI to work more effectively around prioritised portfolios of work.
- Modelling UKRIs values and piloting new ways of working to address complex issues that span UKRI councils, policy areas, and/or government departments.
Strategy Advisor (Research Sustainability) Responsibilities:
In addition to the above Key Responsibilities, you would be taking forward the Financial Sustainability Teams communications and engagement plan to influence and inform.
- Align more closely with Government priorities and needs
- This will involve working closely with colleagues in Comms to design and publish materials from the programme.
This role reports to the Head of Sustainability and Engagement.
Strategy Advisor (Investment Strategy) Responsibilities:
In addition to the above Key Responsibilities you will be:
- Monitoring progress on how UKRI is delivering against its current spending review priorities across its Place, Talent and Commercialisation functions.
- Building and maintaining an evidence base that demonstrates the impacts of our Place, Commercialisation and Talent investments as part of UKRIs preparations for the next spending review
This role reports to the Strategy Lead for Talent.

Essential
- Time management excellent organisational skills with the ability to manage own workload, resolve competing demands, and cope with changing priorities in a flexible and proactive way.
- Project management – experience in planning and managing projects and using own initiative to improve administrative processes
Other Key Information:
We will hold a reserve list from this recruitment exercise who may be approached about other strategy and policy roles in the group.
Occasional travel to London may be required.
